For the collectors among our readers, the bronze medallion was cast, probably in late 1985, by Wegner Metal Arts in preparation for the 1986 200th anniversary the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, which passed in Richmond, January 16, 1786 (while Mr. Jefferson was in France.) The Wegners also created the statuette of the monument, but much later, in preparation for the January 2002 celebration of Jefferson’s 1777 Bill. Ralph and Ellis Gooch, of Cardinal Pewter, created the pewter medallion for the same occasion.
The bronze medallion, #00, was owned by Gordon Shelton, who gifted it to me a few years before his death.
